Hicoey Evening Events

HICOEY 1962 NOV HOBBIES EXHIB MEMORIAL HALL

Higham Memorial Hall November 1962, where Club members presented their hobbies to, well whoever turned up, I suppose. Probably, their parents. Quite a lot of them no doubt had a genuine interest in fishing but Rachel Nott, Margaret George, Christine Gundry & Carole Winslade appear to be more interested in being in the photograph than anything else. Photograph taken by Club Leader, Michael Barton.

The chaps, L to R Anton Britten, X Newton, Bob Clark, Dave Green, John Bartholemew.

Inside The Church Institute in Villa Road in 1963. Note the latest dance craze.

  1. Hi There,
Got her by default, nothing to do with music or youth club.Just doodling on the I-pad (Google!).Got nothing on George Cullen then this page popped up under Carol WInslade.I was thinking about the Regal steps where we used to meet from the outlying villages of Cobham,Meopham and Higham. This was a surprise.I’m glad your still with us Mike!I knew you were in Army Cadets so when I saw an M J Kent was shot down in a helicopter over Armagh in the 70’s during the Troubles I thought it was yourself.Nice to see some fellow Techites A.Bracey (3A) and C.Easdown (5C).Thanks for the photo’s now added to my personal history.

    1. Good to hear from you Alan. My three years in the Kent Army Cadet Force was long enough for me to realise that service life would not suit me. However, in retrospect I learned a lot about life. It also allowed Jack Watson to mock my “army walk” at school. He did the same to Malc Redsell who was in the Boy’s Brigade and hence also picked up his feet when he walked.
I am still in regular contact with Les Baker, Malc Redsell and Ian Holliday from the gang who used to hang around Gravesend being a nuisance or worse. I have even once met up with Bob “Will” Woolley a few years ago. Unfortunately, Charlie Lee (Chas to most people) died a couple of years ago. Tony Bracey was Les Baker’s Best Man but we lost contact with him some years ago.
Ian in particular has tried to track down George Cullen (without success) after he saw an article in an edition of Kent Life in a waiting room somewhere with the caption “George Cullen-Kent’s last Woodman”.
Hope you are well. Carole has added comments in the past. In fact she is one of very few females to have ever done so. Mike
